Lowe Wines is the most interesting producer in the region — biodynamic farming, natural wine techniques and exceptional food paired with their wines. The cellar door is genuinely worth a long afternoon. Robert Oatley is the biggest name and produces excellent chardonnay. Crabtree is known for its shiraz. Most cellar doors are open Friday through Sunday — many are closed Monday, so plan accordingly if you're staying until Monday.
Mudgee Saturday Farmers Market
The Saturday morning farmers market in Mudgee is one of the best in regional NSW — genuine producers selling direct, excellent coffee, local cheese, fresh produce and baked goods. Arrive before 9am for the best selection. The market is the heart of the Mudgee weekend and the reason staying Friday night is strongly recommended — you'll be set up for a perfect Saturday morning before the cellar doors open.
