Berry is NSW's most charming village — a single perfect main street, world-class food within walking distance, a Saturday market that draws visitors from across the Shoalhaven and the option to combine with Jervis Bay for the perfect 4-day long weekend.
Queen Street Berry — Australia's Best Village Main Street
Queen Street Berry is genuinely exceptional — a 400-metre stretch of heritage buildings housing independent boutiques, antique shops, delis, galleries, a chocolate shop, a bookshop and several excellent cafés and restaurants. There are no chains. Everything is owner-operated. Park once and walk — the village is entirely manageable on foot. The autumn colour from the European trees lining the street in April and May is beautiful.
Berry Saturday Market
The Saturday morning market in the Berry Showground is the heart of the Berry weekend experience. Local producers selling direct — Berry Farm honey, local cheeses, fresh bread, seasonal vegetables, handmade goods and excellent coffee. Arrive before 9am for the best selection and to beat the Sydney day-trippers who arrive mid-morning. The market runs until about 1pm. This alone justifies staying Friday night.
Best Restaurants in Berry
Silos Estate Restaurant is the special-occasion choice — hat-awarded winery dining in a beautiful rural setting 10 minutes from the village. Book the verandah table. The Berry Hotel is the social heart of the village — one of the best pub restaurants in regional NSW, excellent steak and seafood, good wine list. Berry Sourdough Café is non-negotiable for breakfast — the queue on Saturday mornings is part of the ritual. The Treat Factory for fudge and chocolate is mandatory.
Combining Berry with Jervis Bay
Berry and Jervis Bay are 40 minutes apart — making them a perfect combination for a 3-4 day long weekend. Arrive Berry Friday, spend Saturday at the market and village, Sunday morning at Berry then drive to Jervis Bay for Sunday afternoon and Monday. Hyams Beach on a Monday morning is a very different experience to a Saturday — quiet, clear and completely worth the extra day.
